From the humble tea-light to the light sculpture:
Muma Soler uses tiny flames to draw the concentric rhythms of a dance on the cobblestone place. How great a candle can be in the hands of an artist like him!
Zurich, May 4th, 2013
Polifacetic artist Muma Soler uses candles to illuminate cities such as Barcelona, Girona, Córdoba or Lausanne with spectacular performances. The root of this ephemeral work of art are human relationships: Muma Soler coordinates more than a thousand volunteers to lighten up the drawings he composes all along streets and squares. The city then becomes a real Social Sculpture.
The last of these performances took place in Le Touquet (France) and we really ran out of words to describe its magic.
Just enjoy the video and the pictures!
Magic and poetry happened in Barcelona last Tuesday night thanks to Between Silence & Light installation by the Illumination Designer Michela Mezzavilla.
” I wanted to bring back a little light to each of the endless wounds on these walls” she said.
In order to create this ambience of semidarkness, the APDI, Professional Association of Illumination Designers that organised the event, finally got the city coucil permission to totally turn off the street lights of the area!
Flickering flames filled the corners of the place and the word SILENCE was written with candles on the cobblestoned pavement of Sant Felip Neri square, in the Gothic heart of the city. It was the Urban Light Festival of Barcelona: LLUM BCN
